I built my new Z87-G45-based gaming PC a few months ago, and everything has been great. It worked very well, and was very fast. The Fractal R4 case made it all look awesome as well (thanks, /r/buildapc.)
With that said, MSI Live Update was installed when I installed the various motherboard drivers. It seemed to work well and helped keep my various drivers up to date.

Today I noticed there was an update to MSI Live Update (forgot the version, it may have been available for a while.) I installed the updated, and the software mentioned that all sorts of stuff had available updates.
I installed them as it recommended, and all of the sudden everything went black. A reboot didn't fix it. Clearing the CMOS didn't fix it.
So -- for those of you who are have this tool -- DO NOT USE IT TO UPDATE YOUR BIOS!
Google reveals that this has happened to numerous people.

I should add that this applies to any motherboard manufacturer as well. You should never flash your BIOS in Windows.
